The Ballett Gesellschaft Hannover e.V. was founded in 1985 with the aim of improving and promoting the dance scene in Hannover. Our activities centre on modern ballet, contemporary dancing and futuristic choreography.Numerous ballet enthusiasts are already participating in this community scheme and as such provide important contributions for cultural events in the Hannover area. In times of ever decreasing public funding a private initiative is very important. The Ballett Gesellschaft Hannover e.V. seeks to support the ballet both conceptually and financially and, at the same time, give members an insight into the dance activities in Hannover. We offer exclusive contacts with dance professionals, joint visits to rehearsals and premières as well as discussion groups with performers and directors in venues large and small at home and abroad.
However, the heart of our activities lies in the International Competition for Choreographers. The Ballett Gesellschaft Hannover e.V. has been hosting this unique European contest for 23 years. During this long period the event has claimed a prominent position in the national and international dance scene. Choreographers and dancers from around the world congregate for this weekend to participate in a competition full of variety and excitement. For many talents this is and has been the launch pad for their careers as choreographers. Hannover has also benefited from this competition. The town has become a scouting centre for young male and female choreographers from German speaking regions and also a meeting point for the international future orientated dance scene.
