23. th International Competition for Choreographers Hanover
Just under 170 young choreographers from all over the world, or to be precise from 45 countries, participated in the 23nd International Competition for Choreographers. From the candidates present the jury panel, consisting of Ed Wubbe, Eva-Maria Lerchenberg-Thöny und Jörg Mannes, chose 15 choreographers to participate in the contest.From the 15 short listed choreographers seven made it to the Finals. The finalists were Sharon Fridman - Israel, Tim Gerhards, Simon Hartmann, Daniel E. Müller - Germany, Albert Garrell, Anna Altes - Spain, Zen Jefferson - Schwitzerland, Sanghye Jung - Korea, Allessandro Pereira - Brazil and Simon Zufit -Israel.

Conditions
of entry
1. All
participants, whether choreographer or dancer, should have a
professional formation. Choreographers must have been born after
31.12.1973.2. Application in writing on the enclosed form must be completed and returned to the organiser until Feb. 23rd 2009. The choice of subject and music is left open to the competitor. Particulars about both should be given on the entry form. A videotape (only VHS) or PAL-DVD (Video) of the choreographic work must also be sent to reach the organisers not later than Feb. 23rd 2009. The video may only contain the choreography to be performed in the competition. The video will be send back only if inquired. The length of performance must be between 5 and 15 minutes. A solo-ballet may not be interpreted by the choreographer him/herself.
3. The admission to the competition will be decided by a pre-jury after watching all the videos. Admission to the competition is subject to the organiser’s consent.
4. Competitors are obliged to be available for the performances of the competition. They are required to be available without fee for necessary rehearsals, eventual press-conference, interviews plus radio and television recordings.
5. The decision of the jury is final. If a competitor is a pupil or company member of one of the judges, this judge will withhold his vote. After the competition the members of the jury will be available to competitors, on request, for advisory talks.
6. Prizes totalling 13.500.- EUR will be awarded, divided as follows:
1st prize = 6.000.- EUR
2nd prize = 3.000.- EUR
3rd prize = 2.000.- EUR
audience prize 1.000.- EUR
prize of the critics: 1.500.- EUR

Place and timing
The competition will take place on the April 11th and 12th 2009 in the Staatsoper Hannover, Opernplatz 1, D-30159 Hannover, Germany, Tel. ++49. (0)511. 9999-1061 (ballet direction). It will take place on the two consecutive afternoons with an expert jury plus audience. The finale will be on Sunday evening. The rehearsals will take place in the morning of both days. All participants have a limit of max. 20 minutes to prepare the stage, set the light and rehearsal.
Accommodation
The Ballett Gesellschaft Hannover will pay the costs for accommodation in the Suitehotel Hanover City.
